Energy Efficient Lighting for the Environment
Over the past decade, climate change has been dragged to the forefront of our everyday lives as the greatest ever threat to our planet’s existence. It has also been well documented that the reason for this deterioration is manmade through the burning of fossil fuels and the carbon emissions produced as a result. Approximately 50% of these come from businesses and industry, hence the reason for immediate focus on these areas by governments around the world.
Based on 1990 figures the British government has agreed to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by 12.5% by the year 2012 with planned reductions extending to at least 60% by 2050.
Initiatives such as carbon taxes and cap-and-trade schemes impose direct financial penalties to businesses based on their CO2 emissions. Although these are designed to prevent businesses form consuming energy, there are also many initiatives devised to assist businesses in reducing their energy consumption.
